Why We Started and Still Craft
Simply put: establishing our custom lens lab came down to control and service. We found that it was too easy for details or even lenses to disappear in a larger manufacturing process, and plenty of reasonable requests could get caught up in red tape. So, we took control of our own destiny. In our custom lens lab, we know exactly who is working on which lenses, what accommodations are possible, and we can take full ownership of our output. Even when there’s an occasional delay, we’re still faster than the rest!

Our Roots in Custom Eyewear
DM Optical owners Drake and Cliff McLean have generations of optical experience and knowledge that’s been handed down to them since their grandfather, “Mac”, founded their shop over 80 years ago. Throughout our extended history, we’ve been interested in the science and design of custom lens making, and today, taking on that work ourselves is a pivotal part of how we provide our customers with ever-more incredible eyewear.

We’ve never been content to rest on our laurels. We work to continually improve the craftsmanship of our glasses as technology and materials in the industry advance.
